A
big
THANK YOU to everyone who
took part and supported this years
Pink PJ 10k/5k Plod. The weather
held out for us and the sun shone
through. Once again there were some
great costumes and everyone really
entered into the spirit of the plod
and Halloween.
There were just under two hundred
participants and we have raised
nearly £2,500 so far for Cancer
Research UK, with more coming in.
Photos now
available.

In
November 2008, the Pink PJ Plod was
born - a tribute to a wonderful and
sorely missed lady, Penny Jenkins
who, with her team, The Red
Feathers, raised an incredible
amount of money for Cancer Research
UK before losing her own personal
battle with cancer. The walk
was an amazing success - over 160
people took part and over £6,000 was
raised. It was decided almost
immediately, that the walk would now
become an annual event.
This year,
our Pink PJ Plod III will again take
place during October Breast Cancer
Awareness Month and everyone is
again, encouraged to wear pink PJs!
As it is Halloween, we would like to
encourage the children (and the
adults if they would like!) to come
along in Fancy Dress - there will be
prizes for the best costumes!

The Cancer Research UK Relay For
Life Volunteer Committee who are
again organising the walk would like
to invite you and your friends and
family to come along and support us. Every single penny of registration
fees and any fundraising monies will
all go to research into the very
many forms of cancer, as it is
organised by volunteers and the
Speech House very kindly give us the
premises free of charge. There is absolutely no financial
outlay, and, if you are a member of
a Relay Team, your registrations
fees will go towards your team
totals and will kick start your
fundraising for 2011!
This is truly a wonderful day out
for all the family - and you will
really be helping to make a
difference. Cancer is
something that, unfortunately,
touches us all at some point during
our lives, so do come along and make
strides to help us beat cancer! |

Take
part
Help us beat cancer by walking with your family
and friends or colleagues (and
dogs!) in the Pink PJ Plod. This is
a volunteer run charity walk in the
Forest of Dean, and they will
be delighted if you join them for a
delightful stroll around the paths
of the Forest of Dean, including
part of the sculpture trail. After
the walk we hope you will join us in
the Speech House pavilion, for a
welcome cuppa and home made cakes!
(Pink PJ's optional). |

About the walk
The walk takes place along the paths
of the Forest, starting at the
Speech House, which was built in
1676 as a hunting lodge for King
Charles 11. It soon became known as
the administrative centre of the
Forest and the largest room became
the Verderers Court. This is still
scheduled every 40 days, but in
practice the 'Court' now sits four
times a year.
The Forest justifiably wears the
title, Queen of all Forests' and
boasts to have twenty million trees,
which inside hide hundreds of
species of flora and fauna. Walkers
are in for a real treat! |

|
Additional information
Wheelchairs - the main paths
of the walk are suitable for
wheelchairs. Pushchairs - the
main paths of the walk are suitable
for pushchairs. Dogs - are
welcome on leads |
